Andalusian Carnival - Feria Tarifa 2014

This year, the traditional Andalusian Feria will be held from the 6th to the 14th of September 2014. As always, the marquees and the amusement parkwill be located at the end of the village by the football stadium of Tarifa. 

There are about a dozen of those marquees, and they have very original names - like "5comentario" ("Without comment"), "7 Pecados" ("7 Deadly Sins") or "Comité Central" ("Central Comitee"). In each of them you find differnt music, people and ambient. 

Although you aren't a big fan of these type of events, you shouldn't miss the "Día del Caballo" ("Horse day"). Then Horses, riders and accompanying get dressed up and in various competitions will be determined the best in their class. This is very nice to look and it takes place as well thoughout the daytime.

But already before, on the first day of the Feria, there is a major horse event. It's the day, when about 500 men (and now as well women) bring the patron Saint of Tarifa - the "Virgen de la Luz" ("Virgin of Light") into town for the period of the Feria party. Just stay in the evening near the main street and you will be impressed.

In the surroundings of the main marquees you find countless carousels, car scouter and food stands.

If you plan to spend your holidays in Tarifa in this period, be sure, taht your accommodation is located in a safe distance to the noisy area of the Party-area. On the other hand, make your accommodation reservation in advance, because the first half of September still attracts a lot of beach addicts and kitesurfers.

 

So, who wants to see Andaluian party culture in its pure version, should have seen a Feria!
